ABOUT THE ARTIST Arts and crafts have been a vital part of my life since elementary school. My educational background is in interior design and the travel industry, both studied in Omaha, NE. I have worked in both fields in my hometown of Omaha, as well as here in Kansas City, where I have resided since moving from Omaha in 1986. In addition to my formal studies, I have always taken continuing education classes and have experimented as a hobbyist with practically every medium. I love to sew, knit, crochet, read, paint... blah, blah, blah! I began chain making about five years ago, combining the chains with semi-precious beads to create jewelry and rosaries. In 1997, I began silversmith classes under the tutelage of internationally known metal smith artist, Genevieve Flynn. It was "love at first bite" of the jeweler's saw into metal. I love to take something cold, hard and formless and turn it into something warm and meaningful. I want people to have a love and meaning for any piece they obtain and realize the love with which it was created. I prefer to create one of a kind abstract works that allow each individual to see the image they desire... to make it their own. My studio in the lower level of my Parkville, MO home is "organized chaos" where "creativity runs amok". I am always inspired most by God's creations and find joy working with the gifts of the earth in the form of precious metals and stones. I am also a glass bead artist. I was first introduced to Lamp Work Glass Beads while attending classes at William Holland School of Lapidary Arts, in Young Harris, GA. The fact that each glass bead is a “one of a kind” piece of art was very attractive, since I get bored with repetition. Combining glass and metal also presented limitless creative opportunities. Today some my favorite pieces use my “one of a kind” hand crafted beads to accent my silver and gold jewelry art pieces, making each piece of jewelry completely handcrafted and "one of a kind" unique wearable art for people of distinction! I have been making handcrafted creams and lotions for about 6 years. Researching ways to improve the quality of my “potions” and allergic reactions to commercial detergent bars, led me to the world of soap making. After trying my first bar of handcrafted soap, I was “hooked” and I’ve been making soaps ever since. As with any handcrafted item compared to a commercially produced item, hand made soaps often use more expensive and exotic raw materials and result in a soap bar which is unique and luxurious. My luxury soaps, lotions and skin care products are available at Studio 925 in Kansas City, upon request directly from me or my website, http://www.lalaladesigns.com/index.html.
