WHY HANDCRAFTED

Luxurious Soaps, Lotions

and Potions?

My Handcrafted Bars of Soap are made with all natural ingredients.  Creamy handcrafted soap has little in common with manufactured bar "soap", which is really synthetic detergent.  My soaps are made from scratch, not a "melt and pour" base that is colored and fragranced. The melt and pour bases, although rich in glycerin, may also contain many chemicals.  Handmade soaps contain all the glycerin and none of the chemical additives. Also a product made from scratch means that I have total control over every ingredient included.  Handcrafted soap feels silky soft and soothing to the skin.  The lather is penetrating rather than thin and airy.   It leaves an emollient film on the skin that makes it feel soft.   Most of the glycerin is removed from manufactured soaps and sold separately to the cosmetic industry.   My soaps retain all the natural glycerin, making it feel soothing to the skin.   All my soaps are made in my studio kitchen and  hand cut, which gives each bar a different look.  These soaps have a wonderful natural occurring lather providing a smooth, clean, and relaxed feeling.  Since each bar is unique, size is approximately 6 ounces.     I use only cosmetic grade colorants, on the occasions when color is desirable.  Most coloring is determined by the addition of herbs, grains, spices and the oils used.  Essential oils and some fragrance oils are used in scenting my soaps.  My handcrafted soaps, are made with high quality vegetable oils such as Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Palm Kernel Oil, Jojoba Oil, Olive Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil  and Avocado Oil.   Cocoa Butter, Mango Butter, Shea Butter and Kukui Nut Oil are used for “super fatting” ingredients, providing extra emollients for a creamy, sudsy clean that is so good for your skin.

One other thing ... YES, I use lye in my soap making process.  Soap making requires either Sodium Hydroxide (NaoH) or Potassium Hydroxide (KoH).  Making soap is not possible without lye ... soap IS a combination of lye and fats/oils.  After the saponification process, soap contains no trace of caustic lye, because it has all reacted with the oils to make SOAP!  Correctly made and cured homemade soap is milder than anything you can buy... even those fancy clear glycerin bars.

Kukui nut oil is one on my favorite ingredients because of the numerous and incredible benefits to the skin.  In addition to Kukui nut oil, I use imported Tamanu oil and Monoi de Tahiti oil in many products.

My Handcrafted Lotions and Potions are created in the same manner as my soaps using pure, natural products.  All my skin care products are also made in my studio kitchen .  I use cosmetic grade colorants, on the occasions where color is desirable.   Most coloring is determined by natural herbs, grains, spices and the oils used.   Essential oils and some fragrance oils are used in scenting my lotions and potions.  My handcrafted skin care products are made with high quality vegetable oils such as coconut oil, sweet almond oil, palm kernel oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, apricot kernel oil  and avocado oil, cocoa butter, mango butter , shea butter. and Kukui nut oil.  The varieties and amounts of ingredients are selected for the maximum skin enhancing benefits.  Although I would prefer to make a totally natural chemical free product, I also prefer to deliver a product free of micro bacteria and fungus. I, therefore, use Phenonip in a 0.05% percentage to guarantee a healthy and safe product.

My soaps and lotions are made in small batches that do not sit in storage for months waiting for your order. Many products are made upon receiving the order, which makes it possible for me to "customize" a recipe to your specification.
